[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n what has become our very own end-of-the year tradition, Law@theMargins presented its 2015 Justice in Review on December 14, 2015.
Editor-in-Chief Chaumtoli Huq and UCLA Labor Center’s Victor Narro led a conversation that centered on some of the achievements, the setbacks and the lessons learned in 2015.
Joining them to share their thoughts on the past year was a panel of scholars and activists in the areas of criminal justice, labor rights, trade justice, Palestinian rights, and access to legal services. They included Andrea Ritchie, Diego Sepulveda, Suzanne Adeley, Toby Chow and Jorel Ware. (Full bios after the video.)

PANELIST BIOS
Andrea Ritchie is a Black lesbian police misconduct attorney, organizer, and Soros Justice Fellow who has engaged in extensive research, writing, and advocacy around criminalization of women and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people of color over the past two decades. She is is co-author of Say Her Name: Resisting Police Brutality Against Black Women (African American Policy Forum July 2015); A Roadmap for Change: Federal Policy Recommendations for Addressing theCriminalization of LGBT People and People Living with HIV, (Center for Gender and Sexuality Law at Columbia Law School 2014); and Queer (In)Justice: The Criminalization of LGBT People in the UnitedStates (Beacon Press 2011), |
Born in Mexico, raised in Huntington Park, and a graduate of UCLA, Diego Sepulveda is passionate about uplifting and empowering the next generation of leaders. Currently, Diego is a Project Coordinator with the UCLA Labor Center and is pursuing an MBA at the Graduate School of Nonprofit Management in Bel Air, CA. |
Suzanne Adeley has worked on several labor and human rights projects in the United States, India, Egypt, and Turkey, in various capacities. She is the former India Project Coordinator of the United Auto Workers, Global Organizing Institute and has worked as a researcher and organizer with the International Commission for Labor Rights, since 2014. Suzanne is on the bureau of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers and the National Lawyers Guild International co-chair. She is the daughter of Arab Teamsters. |
Toby Chow is the chair of The People’s Lobby, an independent political organization in Chicago that works on electoral campaigns as well as multiple issues concerning economic, racial, and environmental justice. He is also a leader in the Moral Mondays Illinois movement for a progressive state budget.” |
